Bijna helemaal verdwenen ...

Geopend in 1970 en reeds failliet in 1980, werd deze daarna verkocht aan ontwikkelaars. Deze vierkante oval stond erom berucht dat hij sneller was dan Indianapolis door zijn ietwat hogere banking.

463. Corona's Grand Boulevard (Corona, CA, USA)

Op deze hoofdstraat werd geraced in 1913, 1914 en 1916.
Er kwamen toen ongeveer 100.000 toeschouwers naar dit stadje dat in die tijd zo'n 4.000 inwoners telde.
In 1913 werd de race gewonnen door Earl Cooper.

464. Santa Monica Road Race (Santa Monica, CA, USA)

Uit dezelfde periode als Corona.
Op de derde foto zien we Earl Cooper die in 1913 ook won te Santa Monica.
Op de vierde foto een pitstop uit 1913 ... men neme de grootste en de sterkste ...
Op de vijfde foto, mechanieker Walter Melcher in 1919 tijdens zijn eerste en laatste ronde in zijn racecarriere ...

Competitie is ondertussen verleden tijd op deze oval.
Hij wordt nu voornamelijk gebruikt voor de zondagse markt en op dinsdag en woensdag voor de rommelmarkt.
Deze oval wordt nu ook verhuurd voor filmcrews en figureerde reeds in The Dukes of Hazard, Power Rangers en The Love Bug.
Ook de reclamefirma's van o.m. Subaru, Ford en Miller Beer weten de site ondertussen te vinden.

467. Circuit du Heysel
Dit circuit werd gebruikt voor de GP van Brussel Formule 2 in 1960.
Ik heb een zo goed mogelijke overlay gemaakt van het plannetje op de kaart, maar veel van het oorspronkelijke circuit blijft niet over.
