Here's why Michael Schumacher wins all the races.
Two hours after the Grand Prix was over last Sunday, after the champagne was sprayed and the interviews were conducted, I was leaning against a railing on top of the garages, looking down at the Ferrari paddock.
The grunts of the outfit, a half-dozen or so, were starting the humongous job (and the most unglamorous of F1 tasks) of packing everything up in crates — tools, tires, pit equipment, race cars — for shipment to the next GP in Indianapolis.
Schumacher walked in on this little group. Danced in, is more like it. He had a big grin on his face and was obviously still pumped. He went up to each of these people and shook their hands and hugged them. He had a private word with each.
They all just beamed.
You see this and you know that those people would literally give their lives for this guy. He makes each and every member of that team feel ever so special.
