Is deze wedstrijd al 100% zeker? Na het podium-incident tijdens de GP van Turkije j.l. staan alle FIA evenementen in dat land onder druk. 19 September a.s. is er een hoorzitting van de FIA over de mogelijke straf/sancite voor de Turkse bond.

Estoril schijnt al in standby-modus te staan.......

Ibrahim Okyay is looking forward to his first appearance in the FIA World Touring Car Championship on his home race track.

Born 47 years ago in Istanbul, Turkey's capital city which is only half-an-hour drive from the Istanbulpark, Okyay will take part in the event at the wheel of a BMW 320i run by the Turkish Kosifler Gillette M3 Power Team, a former BMW Team Italy-Spain's car.

At the wheel of his S2000 car Okyay competes in the Gulf Track national championship, where he is currently classified third in the Maxi Group.

In previous seasons he claimed four national titles: three in the Track Championship (1997, 1999 and 2001) and one in Hillclimbing (1999).

As a newcomer to the championship he will be given a 20-kg weight handicap.

JAS Motorsport's Scottish driver Ryan Sharp will not take part in the next WTCC meeting at Istanbul. Sharp, currently second in the Yokohama Independents' Trophy, behind Tom Coronel, is due to be back at the wheel of his Honda Accord for the last two meetings of the season in Valencia and Macau.

Wiechers-Sport will run only one BMW 320i in Istanbul, for Diego Romanini; they are currently negotiating with a few drivers to run both their cars at Valencia and Macau.

Turkse piloten dat kan ook nog wel is een zeldzaamheid worden. HEt strafste wat de FIA kan doen in de nasleep van de F1 podium controverse is da nationale turkse autosportbond niet meer erkennen.

Uit de nieuwste gdrukte Autosport valt op te maken dat de WTCC-wedstrijd zeker is. Sancties en straffen voor de Turken zullen dan gelden voor 2007.

Door de race op zo'n korte termijn af te lasten zou FIA (WTCC) in haar eigen vingers hebben gesneden, maar ik denk niet dat we Turkse officials op het podium zullen zien komend weekend.

De tijden zijn inderdaad -1 uur. Ten tijde van het maken van het overzicht was dat nog niet.

Overigens zijn de tijden van de Duitse en Italiaanse Eurosport weer anders.

Ik zet mijne Digicorder het hele Weekend op... alleen kan ik btcc dan niet samen opnemen : daar is race 2 uitgesteld relais op MotorsTv owv Dtm (ik zie nogal wat liever btcc !) ... dilemma's dit WE voor de Toerwagenfans .

Ik heb de race niet helemaal gezien maar de strijd tussen o.a. Coronel, Rangoni (?) en Corthals was mooi.
